Economics should be treated like a science, because it is. As with all branches of science there are vast areas that are not easily understood. That is why we study science. Like many other branches of science, the history of economics has been largely interpreted in a biased manner. Education, business, and government are using fairy-tale economics as if it were the science of economics. The result has been misplaced trust that has caused whole populations to invest in their own demise, while believing that they were working hard to help themselves and humanity.
The aspect of economics that makes scientists shudder is the irrationality of the math associated with it. In order to make traditional math work, only the monetary aspect is considered. Economic policies are then constructed using people as parts of archaic economic machines. The people are tricked, bribed, or forced to be economic parts. These machines fight competing machines causing huge environmental destruction and death. Also lost is the quality of life, and the capability of humankind.
There are two converging economic forces. They are the monetary force, easy math; and the ethical force i.e. kindness, effort, respect, and competence. These forces combine to give an economic result. If an object is in short supply, and a lot of people want it, it could be sold to the highest bidder, but that may not be the ethical thing to do.
The ethical reason for human community is kindness. Economic progress occurs when people look for, and fill areas of need. Most work is for the benefit of others. Much of the world’s population is vulnerable. Everyone begins as an infant. Capability doesn’t emerge until the efforts of thousands of people are kindly expended toward his or her betterment. In the absence of that occurring, economic capability will be predictably nonexistent. The community that doesn’t serve the child is economically deficient, and the unserved child becomes pathetic, vulnerable, or vicious, all huge economic drags.
Science studies the worlds mysteries. It unleashes powers that should be applied kindly for human dignity. Economics is the science that can help us succeed in that endeavor. Economics is a window from which we can see the causes and the effects of unbalanced economic budgets. In economics two plus two equals four, if four is kind, otherwise the numbers do not represent the solution.
