The concept of a business whose owners are not held responsible for all consequences of all of the actions of the business is not realistic. Large corporations, and even smaller ones, profit by ignoring the common sense reality of decency, safety, ecology, and dignity. The corporation is responsible to no one. Its profit is garnered by praying on investors, consumers, and workers. In this way business profit is a disguise for graft. In order to function corporate business has to hide its indiscretions and mistakes to survive. If it doesn’t survive everyone dependent on it is financially destroyed or injured.
If tomorrow every corporation were disallowed profit, the economic system would work better. Clear business cells would allow investors to grow money and do service; would allow workers to make a living and do service; and would allow consumers to purchase goods or services to enhance their own wellbeing and that of others. Incentives should exist for individual responsibility, not corporate irresponsibility.
Using profit to grow corporations is a permission granted by governments to promote discrimination. Democracies secretly use that permission to deny equality to the citizenry. The corporate machinery has power over people and governments, and no person or government has control. Discrimination in business harms people, while it innocently pretends to be responsible.
